OVIEDO, Fla. — Hurricane Milton may be over, but residents and business owners in Seminole County are still feeling the effects the storm brought.

The Black Hammockrestaurant and bar in Oviedo saw significant flooding during hurricane Ian in 2022. While they’re flooded again, workers at the business say they are determined to stay open for business this time around.

Jason Rivera and his team are keeping busy — in their flooded parking lot, they’ve created a walkway for customers and staff.

“We’ve got experience, we’ve been doing this for years, we know what to do,” said Rivera, the general manager of The Black Hammock.

Two years ago, Hurricane Ian forced the business to close — and it took a few months to get things back up and running again.

“We had 2 feet of water inside the restaurant," Rivera said. "So, we’re not there as of yet. Hurricane Milton has created some hiccups here for us. We have water in our parking lot."

Rivera said the business has weathered many storms, and he believes they will reap the benefits of their investments.

“We continue to adapt and make sure we’re still open,” he said.
